Well, it’s time for venue profile number two! When thinking of another venue to profile I figured it was best to start with friends who were married around town and thankfully quite a few have been married in and around Newport!
Our friends Jon and Kim were married at The Atlantic Beach Club in Middletown, RI. (For all the contact information check the bottom of this posting.)
The Atlantic Beach Club sits directly on the beach in Middletown. They were able to hold both the ceremony and reception there. Ideally the ceremony was to be held outside on the lawn overlooking the ocean however the weather didn’t cooperate and plan two went into action with the ceremony being held indoors. Kim and Jon love the water and with the ocean just behind the property they were able to have some nice photos taken on the upper deck using it as a perfect backdrop. (The roof even acted as an umbrella so all stayed dry).
The open dinner/dance space allowed for guests to either dance the night away or if they left their dancing shoes at home they could relax at their table and watch others show off their dance moves. Large windows also offered perfect views of the ocean outside.

All in all this was the perfect venue for their special day! Even the rain couldn’t detract from it!

I just received some fantastic news….Katlem Design & Invitations was chosen to be featured in Style Me Pretty’s Little Black Book of Preferred Vendors. For those of you not familiar with Style Me Pretty, it is a wonderful website and blog chock full of valuable information for anyone getting married…..and it’s oh so stylish as well. In fact, you should check it out now.
It’s one of my favorite blogs and I go there regularly for inspiration and to just read about other fine weddings from around the country. The Little Black Book is a sub-section of the blog where they list preferred vendors hand picked from around the country. Each category is limited to 3 vendors and Katlem Design & Invitations was lucky enough to be chosen for the Newport, Rhode Island category. What an honor!! I am flying high this weekend!
Thank you so much to all my wonderful clients over the last couple years and to Jen for all her amazing insight and help!
This past Saturday, Feb 21, Katlem Design & Invitations participated in the Newport Bridal Show which was held at Rosecliff and OceanCliff in Newport, Rhode Island. We had a booth at the beautiful OceanCliff Hotel and got to take in the nice ocean views while chatting with brides (and grooms too) for the afternoon. Below are some pictures of the Katlem booth from the event!

Yep, that’s right….the color of the year has already been chosen and they have named this lovely shade of yellow, Mimosa! It’s a bright happy color and expresses hope and reassurance at a time when we can all use some…..or it just creates cravings for Mimosa’s. I’ll take it either way. You can learn more about this color here.
Keep an eye out for more postings on color trends for the upcoming wedding season.
Hello! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Happy Holidays!

We’ll have a wide range of our designs available for you to take a look at and see in person. We’ll also be on hand to answer any questions you may have and we’ll be setting up appointments for complimentary consultations.

Since my little studio is located in the heart of a bustling and fabulous wedding area I thought it would be appropriate to share some information about some of the great venues we have! When thinking about which one to start with there was really not much to think about. It had to be the venue where my husband and I were married in October of 2004. We had the most memorable and fabulous day and part of that was because of the beautiful place where we chose for our special day. I really just didn’t want it to end.
We got married at Glen Manor House in Portsmouth, RI. (For all the contact information check the bottom of this posting.)
The Glen provided us everything we were looking for in a venue for our wedding. We wanted a place where we could have both the ceremony and the reception (although that is not necessary). We wanted to get married outside and the grounds at Glen Manor are pristine! The side lawn was ideal for our wedding of 185 guests. (The ballroom would have worked if it had rained but I didn’t plan on it raining!) I also wanted a venue where the girls and I could have a place to get ready and relax before the wedding. The Glen offered a fantastic room upstairs that was large enough for all of us to get ready with room to spare! My now husband and I love the water and we were really hoping to get married near the water. The river is just behind the property and we were able to have some nice photos taken out on the pier. Perfect! We also wanted a venue that was full of character and beauty all its’ own but that also allowed us to bring some of our own personalities to the space. Again, Glen Manor House fit the bill perfectly. At the Glen, you rent the building and then are responsible for coordinating everything else on your own. There is a fabulous couple on hand to guide in the process. This allowed us to create the exact vision we wanted for our wedding while starting with a beautiful canvas so to speak!

All in all this was the perfect venue for our particular needs and wants! Every couple has their own particular vision of what a perfect day and wedding is to them and what worked for us may not work for you. I just wanted to share our great experience at this beautiful treasure.

I had the pleasure of meeting the owner of a local calligraphy studio the other day and I wanted to make mention of her business! She does fabulous work and if any of my clients (or even if you’re not one of my clients) are in need of calligraphy for your wedding or special event we can work in conjunction to make sure the calligraphy and invitation design go hand in hand. She can match styles, colors, mix custom inks, you name it! For those of you who would like to have part of your wedding stationery done truly by hand, Sharon’s service is of the highest quality. She also creates beautiful botanical illustrations which could be an elegant addition to your wedding stationery.

Above is an example of some place cards Sharon has done. What makes these unique place cards so fun is that guests find out which table they are sitting out by picking their shell out of the sand to reveal the table number!

Above is an example of Sharon’s envelope calligraphy. She can match any font style you wish.
